June 28, ANI, Tarouba, Trinidad & Tobago: According to ESPNcricinfo, a small aircraft’s landing attempt in Barbados has left South Africa’s T20 World Cup final and ICC match officials stranded, causing a nearly six-hour delay.
ESPNcricinfo reports that the Proteas team, their family, commentators, match officials, and ICC officials were left stuck at the Trinidad airport due to a small private aircraft’s landing malfunction at the Grantley Adams airport in Barbados.
The Barbados Police Service and the Civil Aviation Authority shuttered the airport so they could check it.
Just as the pilots were getting ready to take off from Trinidad, they received word of the runway closure in Bridgetown.
The tentative rescheduling time for the flight from Trinidad to Barbados was 4.30pm, resulting in about six hours of delay, as informed to passengers on board. The requirement for all boarding passengers to return to the terminal increased the teams had significant delays during the competition.
As to the statement provided by GAIA’s Corporate Communication Specialist Sharleen Brown, “it appears that the landing gear of the private aircraft did not deploy, but it is currently on the runway at GAIA [Grantley Adams International Airport] safely,” ESPNcricinfo cited her as saying.
