The Boston Celtics, the current NBA champions, have awarded their standout forward, Jayson Tatum, a new five-year contract.
Tatum inked a $315 million NBA record contract. The agreement includes a trade kicker and a player option for the final year, and it will take effect in the 2025–2026 season.

The Celtics will have two of the biggest NBA contracts in terms of guaranteed money on their books once Tatum’s extension is officially announced. The 2024 NBA Finals MVP, Jaylen Brown, was previously signed by them to a five-year, $304 million contract.
After being selected by the Celtics with the third overall pick in the 2017 NBA Draft, Tatum went on to become one of the league’s top players this past season, averaging 26.9 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 4.9 assists to earn All-NBA accolades for the third straight year. In addition, he had a fantastic postseason, winning the NBA championship with averages of 25.0 points, 9.7 rebounds, and 6.3 assists per game.
The Celtics also locked starting guard Derrick White to a new deal this offseason, signing him to a four-year, $126 million extension. They now have their starting five: Tatum, Brown, White, Jrue Holiday, and Kristaps Porzingis – under contract through at least the 2025-26 season.
