Right Move or Overreaction? Weigh In on the Chiefs Cutting Buggs

The former defensive tackle for the Lions concluded the 2023 campaign with KC’s practice squad.

After running into multiple legal problems this offseason, defensive tackle Isaiah Buggs is no longer with the Kansas City Chiefs, according to a report from Tom Pelissero of NFL Network on Monday.

After two misdemeanor warrants accusing the NFL star of animal abuse were filed against him in late May, Buggs handed himself in to the police. After being freed on bond, Buggs’ representative stated that he was a victim of a “subversive campaign” that attempted to force him to shut down the hookah lounges he operated in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

After that, on June 17, Buggs was taken into custody and accused of second-degree burglary and domestic abuse. The mother of his child lived in an apartment that the defensive lineman allegedly broke into and dragged down the stairs. As a result, his bond was withdrawn, and Buggs is still being held in custody while the legal matters are resolved. The Chiefs declined to respond at the time.

After a little more than a week, Kansas City has decided to fire Buggs completely. Despite joining the team’s practice squad in early January, he never played a snap during his less than six months with the Super Bowl champs.
