Pies Legend Rocca Diagnosed with Cancer: “I’ll Beat This!”

Former Collingwood star Anthony Rocca has disclosed a surprising cancer diagnosis, sharing that he, at 46 years old, has been diagnosed with Non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma. He also revealed the specific symptom that prompted concern.

The current coach of the Northern Knights sought guidance from Collingwood doctor Dr Ruben Branson, and it led to the surprising discovery. The former player, with 242 games to his name, discussed his diagnosis in an interview with the Herald Sun and expressed his determination to overcome the condition.

Rocca expressed the difficulty of acknowledging the “c” word and his approach to facing the illness head-on. He emphasized his focus on treatment and the plan moving forward following the diagnosis. Stepping down from his role with the Knights, he is preparing for six months of chemotherapy with the support of his wife and children.

Despite the unsettling news, Rocca shared positive updates, stating that his condition is highly treatable and he is feeling relatively alright at the moment. The football community has rallied behind him, with messages of support and encouragement pouring in from fellow players, presenters, and fans.

Having spent 15 years in his AFL career, Rocca retired in 2009, and the community stands behind him as he confronts this new challenge.
