Mike Tyson is just days away from his return to professional boxing, facing off against “Problem Child” Jake Paul. The match is scheduled to be broadcast live on Netflix next Friday, November 15th. Originally slated for July, the bout was postponed due to a medical emergency that forced the 58-year-old boxer to withdraw. Mike Perry stepped in but was decisively defeated by Paul.
Tyson’s withdrawal was attributed to an ulcer, but few details have emerged regarding his condition. Paul insists there’s no need for a backup opponent, yet many are genuinely worried about Tyson’s health and safety as he returns to the ring at his age.
The latest episode of “Countdown: Paul vs. Tyson” is unlikely to ease those concerns. Tyson shared more about his ulcer issues, revealing some alarming details.
“I went to the bathroom and I threw up blood,” Tyson stated (via USAToday). “The next thing I know, I’m on the floor. I was defecating tar.”
Tyson disclosed that he had a 2.5-inch bleeding ulcer and, during its removal, he lost an impressive 26 pounds. He also recounted a conversation with his doctor that highlighted the seriousness of his situation.
“I asked the doctor, ‘Am I going to die?’” Tyson said. “And she didn’t say no. She said we have options, though. That’s when I got nervous.”
Since July, Tyson has not reported any health issues during his training camp. Hopefully, the legendary boxer is in good health and ready to compete, as his much younger opponent is likely aiming for another knockout.
