Last year, the Oklahoma State football team narrowly missed winning the Big 12 when they reached the championship game but lost to Texas. With Texas and Oklahoma now out of the Big 12, leaving the door wide open, Oklahoma State has the opportunity to pursue another title. The 2024 team is packed with talent, with running back Ollie Gordon standing out as one of their most gifted players, a fact not lost on head coach Mike Gundy.
Ollie Gordon is anticipated to be a standout player in college football this season, but his season is now at risk following a recent DUI arrest. During the ongoing Big 12 media days, Oklahoma State football head coach Mike Gundy chose to have Gordon present. Gundy’s intention was for Gordon to confront the situation and he also mentioned that Gordon will not face game suspensions as a consequence of the incident.
“We’re in a time where you guys are essentially employees,” stated Gundy, as reported in a tweet by Cayden McFarland. “You guys make a lot of money to play this game, it’s different than it was five years ago. Your consequence will be confronting the reality, that’s why we brought him here today. I said, ‘you’re not going into hiding. You’re going to have to face the music, you’re going to have to stand up and talk to people and answer questions. And hopefully, more than football, you can learn from the situation you’ve been in.’ If not, then we’ve got a real issue. But, he’s going to play. I’m going to do what I think, what we think, is best for Oklahoma State football, and I think it’s best for Ollie [Gordon] to play. If there’s any punishment, it’s making him carry the ball 50 times in the first game.”
Ollie Gordon will not miss any playing time for Oklahoma State, but he might have a significant workload in week one.
