Kendrick Lamar did not spare any detail. On Juneteenth, the rapper’s “Pop Out” show was a concert to remember. Legends signed him as a co-signer, peers made cameo cameos, and he executed a few Drake disses for the first time. It was always going to be “Not Like Us” on the closer end. But Dot made sure the supporters got value for their money. A few NBA stars joined the rapper throughout his five separate performances of the tune.
Although Lamar’s hit song was a hit each time, the show’s most memorable moment will always be the fifth and last time. To assist him take the concert on the road, the rapper invited scores of individuals, including NBA players Russell Westbrook and Demar DeRozan, onstage. After giving K. Dot a dap, both players started dancing to the incredibly infectious DJ Mustard tune. Additionally, Westbrook and DeRozan posed for the large group portrait that was shot onstage during the very last moment of “Pop Out.” Lamar has always been admired by Westbrook. He was caught on camera bobbing his head to another Kendrick Lamar diss track, “Euphoria,” during NBA warmups last month.
Kendrick Lamar Referenced DeRozan On “Not Like Us”
In addition, Westbrook praised Kendrick Lamar for mentioning him in the 2017 song “The Heart Part 4.” He said, “K-Dot’s my man,” to USA Sports. “I was taken aback. I’m content. You always feel like “I made it” when you hear your name in a song, especially when it comes from your partner. In contrast, Lamar specifically acknowledged DeRozan on “Not Like Us.” “I’m glad DeRoz’ came home, y’all didn’t deserve him neither,” Dot said. “From Alondra down to Central, n**ga better not speak on Serena.” This is a reference to DeRozan’s Compton birthplace despite his ten-year tenure with Drake’s hometown team, the Toronto Raptors. Onstage, DeRozan’s Compton pride was palpable.
Not just Westbrook and DeRozan, but several NBA players were present at the “Pop Out” concert. James Harden was seen dancing with Rick Ross, another rival of Drake. Among the crowd, LeBron James was also captured on camera. It’s reasonable to believe James enjoyed the multiple performances of “Not Like Us” as he was seen dancing to the song at a Los Angeles club back in May. It was, all in all, a difficult night for team OVO.
