Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex, is expected to be honored with the Pat Tillman Award for Service at the ESPY Awards, while at the same time, Kelce is nominated for best team.
The upcoming ESPY Awards promise an intriguing event for Prince Harry and Taylor Swift’s NFL star boyfriend Travis Kelce. While set to receive the esteemed Pat Tillman Award for Service, the Duke may find himself in close proximity to the Kansas City tight end, who reportedly has an invitation to the ceremony. This potential encounter follows Kelce’s widely covered connection with Prince William at Swift’s concert, where he praised the prince in a podcast afterward.
Prince Harry and Travis Kelce to attend ESPY awards
Dubbed as the sports equivalent of the Oscars, the ESPY Awards is set to be held on July 11th in Los Angeles. Prince Harry is slated to be honored at the event for his creation of the Invictus Games, a worldwide athletic competition for military personnel who are wounded, injured, or unwell, including both current and former service members. Established in 2014 by the Duke of Sussex, the Invictus Games provides a platform for these individuals to showcase their sporting abilities.
At the same time, Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs have also received a nomination for the best team of the year, thanks to their Super Bowl win in February. Patrick Mahomes, the team’s quarterback and a close friend of Kelce, is in the running for the best male athlete award, making it likely that he’ll be striding down the red carpet.
When Travis Kelce raved about Prince William
Kelce attended the opening day of Taylor Swift’s concert at Wembley Stadium in London. On that day, Prince William, together with his children Charlotte and George, also went to the show to celebrate his 42nd birthday. Prior to the concert, Taylor took a selfie with the royal family and her partner, which she posted on her Instagram, sending birthday wishes to the prince. Later, the NFL star discussed his experience on his podcast New Heights, telling his brother, Jason, that “Prince William was the most awesome guy.”
“They were incredibly pleasant to me. I didn’t know if I should show respect by bowing or curtsying, or simply act like an American and shake their hand,” he continued. The NFL tight end continued by expressing that no other prince compares to William, which some interpreted as a sly dig towards Harry.
Meghan likely to accompany Harry at the ESPY awards
It is expected that the Duchess will accompany Harry to the event, which is being hosted by tennis star Serena Williams, a close friend of the Sussexes. Previously, Meghan supposedly extended an invitation to Swift to appear on her Archetypes podcast, but the singer declined. Now, a source informed The Sun that Harry will likely be in close proximity to Kelce. The source mentioned, “Travis is known to be the most outgoing, cheerful, and amiable person in any gathering and is certain to want to greet the Prince and engage with the Sussexes.” However, for Harry, the meeting “could potentially be uncomfortable,” especially considering his strong bond with his estranged brother Williams.
