DeBoer on Proctor: Alabama Coach Provides Update on Injured Star

Kadyn Proctor Sidelined in Season Opener

Kadyn Proctor, the starting left tackle for Alabama, was absent from the field during the Crimson Tide’s season opener against Western Kentucky on Saturday.

Injury Update on Kadyn Proctor

TUSCALOOSA, Ala. — Alabama coach Kalen DeBoer revealed that starting left tackle Kadyn Proctor suffered an upper-body injury before the Crimson Tide’s season-opening victory over Western Kentucky on Saturday night.

“It caught me by surprise,” DeBoer stated following Alabama’s 63-0 win at Bryant-Denny Stadium. “We’ll have more information as the week progresses.”While DeBoer did not provide specific details about the injury, he mentioned that Proctor will undergo evaluations on Sunday and continue to be assessed daily leading up to Alabama’s Week 2 game against South Florida next week.

Kadyn Proctor’s Status During the Game

Proctor, a second-year left tackle, was named a starter and was among the first Alabama players on the field for pregame warmups. However, he soon left the padded warmups and headed to the locker room. He was replaced by Elijah Pritchett, who had initially been warming up as the second-string right tackle.

The Iowa native returned to the sideline in street clothes before kickoff, with his left arm in a sling. Pritchett made his first career start at left tackle and played most of the game. Alabama was dominant, leading 42-0 at halftime and achieving their largest shutout victory in 51 years.

Coach DeBoer Discusses Elijah Pritchett’s Transition

“He has primarily taken all his reps at the right tackle position during fall camp,” DeBoer commented about Pritchett. He noted that Pritchett’s experience at left tackle during spring practice boosted both their confidence regarding the position change.

“We reviewed all the reps he took in the spring, which helped build his confidence and reassured me as well,” DeBoer said. “I’ll analyze the film, but there were definitely some positive moments, and that success is a result of solid offensive line play.”

Coach DeBoer Praises Pritchett’s Performance

I’m thrilled with how he handled being placed in that role and performed consistently,” DeBoer said.

Proctor started all 14 games at left tackle last season. After transferring to Iowa following Nick Saban’s retirement in January, he returned to Alabama in April and reclaimed the left tackle position during fall camp.

Alabama will face South Florida next Saturday, Sept. 7, at Bryant-Denny Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 6 p.m. CT (ESPN).
