FT LAUDERDALE – Sean Kingston, whose true name is Kisean Anderson, was taken into custody by Southern California authorities on Thursday on a warrant out of Florida for multiple counts of theft and fraud. His mother was also taken into custody during an earlier in the day search at his South Florida residence, where he was arrested.
According to the Broward County Sheriff’s Office, Kingston was arrested in Fort Irwin, California, and is scheduled to be lodged in a San Bernardino jail, around sixty miles east of Los Angeles.
in Southwest Ranches, a Broward County neighborhood 22 miles northwest of Miami, where the artist resides.
The Broward Sheriff’s Office mobile command center, a vehicle used to coordinate police activities, and a number of officers were observed at the residence by CBS News Miami’s Chopper 4.
Court documents dated February 2024 state that the Jamaican-American musician resides at that address. A limited liability business is the owner of the house, according to a study of county records.
Deputies from the BSO’s Dania Beach District, the BSO Strategic Investigations Unit, and Davie Police SWAT executed arrest and search warrants at the residence after an investigation that started in Dania Beach.
Janice Turner, 61, Kingston’s mother, was consequently arrested on many counts of theft and fraud. There is an active and continuing investigation.
The mansion’s tenant, Kingston, is charged with failing to pay VER VER Entertainment the remaining balance on a $150,000 entertainment system that featured a 232-inch television. By promising to make promotional films for the business featuring Justin Bieber, Kingston allegedly convinced the company to take a less down payment and credit toward the purchase.
“He relates a tale. He claims to work with Justin Bieber, has essentially a script, and puts on a great show here. He does not own this house; it is a rental. Additionally, he uses his fame to entice individuals into releasing goods that he doesn’t have to pay for. And then he just never pays,” lawyer Dennis Card, who represents Kingston in a legal dispute, said.
Kingston and his attorneys have been contacted by CBS News Miami for additional remarks. By the time this piece was published, they had not replied.
Sean Kingston’s legal issues
The 34-year-old Kingston is well-known for his hits “Eenie Meenie,” “Fire Burning,” and “Beautiful Girls.”
According to TMZ, in 2021, Kingston was accused by music video producer GXDLIKE of assaulting him in the face and threatening him with a pistol. Kingston has refuted those statements.
2020 saw the issuance of a grand theft warrant for his arrest in response to reports that he had obtained jewels but had never paid for it. Kingston has issued with jewelers over the years. He has allegedly received things and neglected to pay for them, leading to multiple lawsuits against him.
According to TMZ, Kingston got into a brawl at the Penthouse Nightclub & Dayclub in Los Angeles in 2016 and was robbed of a $300,000 chain.
Kingston’s watercraft collided with a Miami Beach bridge in 2011. In addition to a female passenger, he suffered significant injuries. His condition was critical when he was brought to the hospital. He had to have heart surgery after the doctors treating him realized he had ripped his aorta.
