Sutton surrendered to authorities in late March after being sought by the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office in Florida for over three weeks. A warrant for his arrest had been issued on a charge of domestic battery by strangulation.
The Steelers cornerback was alleged to have assaulted a woman at a residence in Lutz, Fla. on March 7 before departing the scene. Police were called to the location that morning and subsequently issued the warrant on the same day.
At the time of his arrest, Sutton was part of the Detroit Lions, who released him following the public revelation of the warrant. The Steelers later signed Sutton to a 1-year contract in June.
The 29-year-old Sutton tallied 65 tackles and one interception for Detroit in the previous season. Throughout his 7-season NFL career, he has accumulated 9 interceptions.
