The usual “hometown visits” between the competitors and Indio resident Abi Carter will play a major role in the finals. Abi Carter on her ‘American Idol’ win: ‘This is my dream’
Abi Carter, the winner of “American Idol” season 22, posted some reflections on Instagram regarding her defining moment.
“HOW IS IT POSSIBLE AT ALL!????? “When I first started this journey, I never could have imagined winning #americanidol,” Carter wrote. “We haven’t had a girl winner in over 4 years and to be the first after so many seasons is the greatest honor.”
Just Sam, played by Samantha Diaz, was the final female winner of Season 18 of “American Idol” (2020).
“I’m just a girl from Indio, who used to sing on street corners, and now I’ve had the pleasure and privilege to work with some of the most talented people in the industry and be heard by millions of people,” the message added. “I know this is just the beginning, but this is my dream. I adore you all incredibly.”
City of Indio, others celebrate Abi Carter’s ‘American Idol’ win
Numerous Coachella Valley organizations, including The City of Indio, Palm Springs VillageFest, and the University of California Riverside Palm Desert campus, congratulated Carter on social media.
“@abicartermusic, OUR American Idol Winner!!!” We appreciate everyone who has supported Abi along this amazing trip and the time they have taken to vote for her each week. Best wishes to @abicartermusic!” perused a City of Indio Instagram post.
In addition to being referred to as the “City of Festivals,” Indio can now call itself the “City of the latest ‘American Idol’ winner” as well.
Ryan Seacrest, host of “Idol,” wrote on Instagram, “She was made for this.” Images of Carter cuddling up to judge Richie and blotting away tears were posted with Seacrest’s display of the winning envelope in his palm.
Abi Carter of Indio named winner of ‘American Idol’
It’s done by her! Abi Carter, a native of Indio, has won “American Idol.”
When host Ryan Seacrest announced Carter’s name, the entire arena erupted in cheers. With tears running down her face, the newest vocalist extraordinaire brought the judges to their knees in an emotional exchange.
Carter concluded the show with a rendition of “What Was I Made For?”, which kicked off her “Idol” career. Her relatives and fellow competitors then gathered around her to give her hugs.
The judges said at the beginning of Carter’s “American Idol” journey that they were looking for the next winner, and on Sunday night, that prediction came true.
“What were you made for?” Perry enquired of Carter at her trial. “You were made for this, 100%.”
As Lionel Richie comforted Perry as she said goodbye to her “Idol” adventure as a judge, Perry was spotted wiping tears from her eyes in the last moments of the show.
In the competition series, Jack Blocker secured third place, and Will Moseley was awarded runner-up.

‘American Idol’ finalist Abi Carter ends her journey with new single ‘This Isn’t Over’
The Indio native performed her most recent single, “This Isn’t Over,” as her farewell song on “American Idol.”
Throughout the song, the vocalist was visibly distraught, fighting back tears as she hit high peaks. After she was done, she let them flow while “Abi! Abi! Abi!” was yelled by the crowd.
The judges could not find words.
Carter’s song is about growing up, becoming a stronger person, and trying to reassure one’s younger self that life goes on even when it seems hopeless. It also conveys to Carter’s fan base that she is still in the early stages of her music career, regardless of what transpires on Sunday.
This is the second song Carter has released during her time on the competition series. Her first single, “It’s All Love,” was released on March 29.
The winner of “American Idol” will be announced in just a few minutes.
American Idol’ finalists Abi Carter, Will Moseley win Disney Cruise to Bahamas
Abi Carter and Will Moseley, the finalists, need to start thinking about their next trip.
The two performers and three guests of their choice earned a Disney Cruise to the Bahamas, according to host Ryan Seacrest. Is there anything better? Then again, they might win “American Idol,” so at least they can unwind for a few days before their music careers really take off.
Top 12 ladies honor judge Katy Perry with medley
Judge Katy Perry, who was finishing her term on the show on Sunday, was honored with a medley of her songs by “American Idol” contestant Abi Carter and the remaining Top 12 ladies.
Singing “Teenage Dream,” “Dark Horse,” and “California Gurls,” the competitors
Perry was seen dancing, eating pizza, and throwing beach balls to the crowd. At the conclusion, she flexed her muscles by scaling the judges’ table.

Abi Carter, a resident of Indio, was the second name selected to join the “American Idol” Top 2.
In the competition series, Jack Blocker secured third place, while Will Moseley is ranked in the Top 2.
