UPDATE: Netflix is expanding into live sports and will be showing NFL games on Christmas Day.

The NFL is the biggest sports agreement that Netflix has yet to land.

The league’s Christmas Day games will be aired on Netflix for three years, starting on Wednesday. This is a significant achievement for the streaming service, whose sports ambitions have mainly consisted of documentaries and live specials about tennis and golf.

This year’s agreement begins with Netflix broadcasting two NFL games worldwide on Christmas. Netflix will stream “at least one” Christmas game in 2025 and 2026. The deal’s financial details were kept a secret.

“No live annual event, whether it be sports-related or not, draws crowds comparable to those of NFL football. The NFL’s Christmas Day games will exclusively be available on Netflix, which excites us much, according to a statement from Netflix Chief Content Officer Bela Bajaria.

The NFL Network and website will make the Christmas Day games for this year public on Wednesday night. Additionally, the analysts and anchors for Netflix’s games were not immediately made public.

According to Hans Schroeder, the NFL’s executive vice president of media distribution, “the NFL on Christmas has become a tradition and to partner with Netflix, a service whose biggest day of the year is typically this holiday, is the perfect combination to grow this event globally for NFL fans,” the statement stated.

Every week during the season, NFL games are usually the highest-rated programs on US TV; therefore, the league may be able to grow its viewership both locally and internationally by adding Netflix to its lineup. This upcoming season, the NFL has confirmed that it would play five international games in three different countries.
