The Michigan Wolverines secured a solid victory over MSU on Saturday night at the Big House, leaving fans and visiting recruits buzzing with excitement. The atmosphere was electric, and it’s clear that the win made a lasting impression on everyone in attendance.
In this edition of the Recruiting Roundup, we’ll explore some of the standout reactions from recruits who were there to witness the action firsthand!
Five-star RB recaps trip to Ann Arbor
One of the standout prospects at the game this weekend was 2026 five-star running back Savion Hiter. Standing at 5-foot-11 and weighing 182 pounds, the talented player from Mineral, Virginia, is ranked as the No. 20 overall prospect and the top running back on the 247Sports composite list. He has placed Michigan among his top five schools, which also include Ohio State, Georgia, Penn State, and Tennessee.
After his visit to Ann Arbor, Hiter shared his excitement with On3’s Steve Wiltfong, saying, “It was electric at the Big House this weekend! A very thrilling game—the biggest college game I’ve ever attended.”
He continued, “Michigan has a rich tradition and a history of winning. The running backs run plays similar to what I’m used to, so I can definitely see myself fitting into that offense. Every visit just keeps getting better, and the entire staff makes me feel right at home.” Looking ahead, Hiter plans to visit Tennessee this weekend and Ohio State the following weekend. While he has no set timeline for a decision yet, it’s clear that the Wolverines have positioned themselves favorably after this visit.
Top CB flip candidate updates recruitment
Last week, excitement surged as several recruiting experts predicted that 2025 four-star cornerback Shamari Earls might flip his commitment from Georgia to Michigan. Earls, who initially chose Georgia over Michigan in July, returned to Ann Arbor for the first time since his decision.
During his visit, he spoke with The Michigan Insider’s Sam Webb, sharing insights about his recruitment. “Michigan has always been on my mind and my family’s,” Earls said. He emphasized his strong relationship with coach LaMar Morgan and the welcoming atmosphere created by the entire staff. “There’s something special here,” he noted.
Earls also highlighted his unique bond with head coach Sherrone Moore, stating, “I think coach Moore is a great coach. A lot of people doubted him, but I believe he’s going to turn things around. I’ve never had such a close relationship with a head coach before; we talk all the time.”
Despite the buzz around a potential flip, Earls and his family are taking their time to discuss their options. He hinted at possibly taking “one or two visits before this is all over,” which could include a return to Michigan for an official visit and potentially another trip to Georgia.Ranked No. 87 overall and No. 11 among cornerbacks in the 2025 class, Earls is certainly a prospect to watch as his recruitment unfolds!
More visitor reactions from U-M/MSU game
One of Michigan’s top remaining targets for the 2025 class is four-star safety Elijah Dotson, who currently holds a commitment to Pitt. However, he’s clearly intrigued by the opportunities in his home state. “Great atmosphere!” Dotson exclaimed after his visit. “The team balled out! They’ve shown a lot of interest, and it’s a fantastic program. I have a chance to play early, and they excel both academically and athletically.”
Another 2025 prospect, three-star defensive lineman Benny Patterson, also made his first trip to the Big House, despite being committed to Cincinnati. His father shared, “The visit has been amazing. The culture is impressive, and you can see why players commit here. The Big House exceeded our expectations—it was the loudest arena we’ve ever been in!”
Shifting focus to the 2026 class, four-star offensive lineman Carter Scruggs is quickly becoming a priority for Sherrone Moore and the Wolverines. After his third visit this year, he remarked, “The environment at the Big House was like none other. With over 110,000 fans in attendance, it was impressive! I know I’ll be developed here and receive a great education. Michigan is definitely high on my list.”
Jacob Alexander, a three-star defensive lineman in 2026, echoed similar sentiments about his experience in Ann Arbor. “The atmosphere is unmatched,” he said. “110,000 fans cheering for the Wolverines is thrilling. The coaches are fantastic both on and off the field. After this weekend, I can truly see myself wearing the maize and blue.”
With such enthusiasm from these recruits, Michigan is making a strong impression as they continue to build their future roster!
