SAD NEWS: Former NFL QB Cutler Faces Traffic, DUI Charges

Former NFL quarterback Jay Cutler has found himself in legal trouble, arrested and charged with driving under the influence and firearm possession while intoxicated following a traffic accident in Franklin, Tennessee, as reported by UPI.

Police officers from the Franklin Police Department responded to the crash, which occurred around 5 p.m. CDT on Thursday in downtown Franklin. Their investigation revealed that Cutler rear-ended another vehicle, leading to a minor collision.

When police approached Cutler, they discovered he had two firearms in his car, including a loaded pistol. Authorities noted that there was a strong smell of alcohol during their conversation with him, and Cutler appeared to be slurring his words and had bloodshot eyes.

Cutler declined to take field sobriety tests and was subsequently taken to a local hospital, where a blood sample was collected under a blood search warrant.

The 41-year-old faces charges including failure to exercise due care to avoid a collision, implied consent, a first-offense DUI, and possession of a handgun while under the influence.

He was booked into Williamson County Jail on Thursday with a bond set at $ 5,000 and was released that same night.

A former quarterback for the Denver Broncos, Chicago Bears, and Miami Dolphins, Cutler had a notable NFL career from 2006 to 2017. He was a standout at Vanderbilt and was selected as the No. 11 overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft.

As a 2008 Pro Bowl selection, Cutler accumulated impressive stats, throwing for 35,133 yards, 227 touchdowns, and 160 interceptions across 153 NFL games.

Three years ago, he disclosed that he began experiencing symptoms related to chronic traumatic encephalopathy (CTE).
