Dolphins' Backfield Takes Hit: Mostert Out, Achane Game-Time Decision vs. Bills

Miami Dolphins Injury News: Mostert Out, Achane’s Status Uncertain

The Miami Dolphins will be missing one of their starting running backs for Thursday night’s primetime game against the Buffalo Bills.

Coach McDaniel announced during his afternoon press conference that Raheem Mostert is officially OUT for Miami’s Week 2 matchup with Buffalo. In last week’s game against the Jacksonville Jaguars, Mostert rushed six times for 9 yards and also recorded two receptions for 10 yards.

Conversely, second-year running back De’Von Achane is considered a game-time decision — or, as McDaniel put it, “we will see how it plays out.” However, since both backs were listed as Did Not Participate on yesterday’s injury report, the Dolphins might be wiser to protect Achane and rely on Jeff Wilson Jr. and rookie Jaylen Wright.

After all, I thought Wilson played well last week against Jacksonville, rushing five times for 26 yards. His timing was excellent, as he became more involved late in the game when it was crucial to run down the clock.

As for Wright, he has shown potential to be a game-changer based on his preseason performance. I would love to see him get some opportunities against the Bills. He’s a true three-down back and can offer a different dynamic to the backfield compared to some of the other players.

That being said, even with a deep running back lineup, it’s concerning that Miami’s starters are already appearing on the injury report and missing games just two weeks into the season.

As we all know, what matters for the Dolphins isn’t necessarily their performance at the start of the year, but rather how they finish — especially as they head into January.

What are your thoughts on the Dolphins being without Raheem Mostert for Thursday night’s game against the Buffalo Bills? Are you looking forward to seeing Jaylen Wright get some opportunities? How do you feel about tomorrow night’s AFC East matchup? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
