Ten Hag dismisses Ugarte as quick fix after Liverpool defeat

Ten Hag dismisses Ugarte as quick fix after Liverpool defeat

Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag made a strange remark by saying, “I’m not Harry Potter,” after his team’s heavy loss to Liverpool.

The Red Devils faced their second straight defeat on Sunday, with Luis Diaz scoring twice and Mohamed Salah adding a goal in the second half at Old Trafford.

This latest loss followed a setback against Brighton the previous week, putting ten Hag under increasing pressure.

In the post-match press conference, he stated that he’s “not Harry Potter” and emphasized that the new £51 million signing Manuel Ugarte won’t be an instant solution to the club’s issues. He remarked, “This is another challenge. We need to integrate them into the team, and that will take time. So it’s not as if I’m Harry Potter, and that’s something you must recognize.”

“If you look at Manuel Ugarte, he hasn’t played any minutes this season. He needs to improve his fitness, and then we have to integrate him into the team. I’m confident that he will contribute at our level.

He will become an important player, but it may take a few weeks, or even months. This also applies to other players; for example, Joshua Zirkzee has made significant progress over the last three to four weeks. I’m very happy with his performance today.

In his post-match interview with Sky Sports, Ten Hag acknowledged that Liverpool outperformed his team and that they made several errors.

He stated, ‘We made mistakes, and they were very clinical in their finishing; they did exceptionally well.‘I don’t believe that was the case. When I look at all the chances we allowed, I think we made mistakes rather than anything else.'”

“All three goals were the result of our mistakes, individual errors. There may be some debate about the last goal regarding our double six, but for the others, I believe Liverpool was outstanding in how they capitalized on our errors and finished their chances effectively. However, their expected goals (xG) wasn’t particularly high.

It’s evident that Liverpool deserved the win, and we need to remain humble. We have to accept this and work on improving our game.”
