Oklahoma’s DeMarco Murray Faces One-Game Suspension for Recruiting Violations
Oklahoma’s running backs coach, DeMarco Murray, has been handed a one-game suspension by the NCAA due to violations related to recruiting. Over an 18-month span from late 2021 to early 2023, Murray made 65 illegal phone calls and sent 36 unauthorized text messages to 17 recruits—a situation that the Oklahoma athletics department self-reported to the NCAA.
According to the NCAA’s infractions report, Murray claimed he didn’t realize that a COVID-19 waiver allowing for relaxed recruiting contact had expired at the time of the violations.
As for which game Murray will miss, that remains unclear. The Sooners kick off their season at home this Friday night against Temple, and fans are eager to see how this suspension will impact the coaching staff and the team’s performance.
Oklahoma’s Track and Field Program Faces Serious Infractions
Oklahoma’s track and field program has been implicated in serious violations, including instructing a female athlete to redirect over $ 2,000 of her scholarship funds to two male athletes. Head coach Tim Langford was found to have breached head coach responsibility rules, a situation mirrored by football coach Brent Venables.
As a result of these infractions, Oklahoma faces several penalties, including one year of NCAA probation and a $ 5,000 fine. Additionally, the school will impose a three-week ban on recruiting phone calls and electronic communications this winter, and no unofficial visitors will be permitted on campus for Friday’s game against Temple.
