Buffs OL Seaton Embraces Challenge

Buffs OL Seaton Takes on the Challenge on Key Five Star Recruit

Jordan Seaton had his choice of college football programs—any school would have welcomed him with open arms.

As one of the nation’s top-ranked offensive linemen last year, he could easily have taken the path of least resistance, joining a powerhouse where victories were almost guaranteed and where he’d be just another five-star recruit.

Instead, Seaton opted for the road less traveled. Embracing challenges, he chose to attend a school where he could make a significant impact and help turn the program around.

He selected Colorado, lured by Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders’ promise that he could leave a lasting legacy as a key player in revitalizing the team.

This challenge excited Seaton’s competitive spirit; he didn’t want to simply be another cog in the machine—he aimed to be part of building a strong foundation that would restore Colorado football’s relevance.

However, this decision came with its risks. Recently, Seaton candidly expressed his initial doubts during a media session, stating, “I actually thought this place was going to be really, really bad … But I took a risk, and Coach Prime delivered on everything he promised.”

In short, Seaton learned that the national perception of Colorado didn’t align with reality.

The university boasts excellent facilities in a stunning location, and the potential for success is palpable. Sanders is quickly assembling the pieces needed to harness that potential.

“You look at universities in the Big Ten or SEC, with their $ 10 billion contracts and all that impressive stuff,” Seaton noted. “I thought I was taking a risk coming here, but it has exceeded all my expectations. We actually have fantastic facilities, and we’re investing a lot in nutrition. From the smallest details to the biggest aspects, everything has surpassed what I hoped for.”

Seaton understands expectations well. As one of the top recruits in the nation last year—and the highest-ranked offensive lineman in CU history—he bears lofty expectations that match his imposing 6-foot-5, 285-pound frame. He’s already established himself as the starting left tackle on a revamped Colorado offensive line, assuming perhaps the most crucial role this season: protecting quarterback Shedeur Sanders’ blindside.

He’s learning fast.

“Everyone faces challenges,” Seaton shared. “I have tough days at practice, but I’d rather it happen here than in a game. I’m not perfect at what I do, but I’m striving for perfection, and that’s my focus right now.”

Even on his “bad days,” Seaton’s performance is often better than what many linemen achieve on their best days. He’s learning, adapting, and quickly becoming a reliable presence on Sanders’ blind side.

In addition, he’s fully utilizing the resources and support available to CU student-athletes. For several months, he’s followed a strict fish diet, successfully adding lean muscle without losing weight.

This transformation, along with building chemistry with his offensive line teammates, plays a significant role in why the Buffs have a real chance to improve on last year’s 4-8 record.

“I think the O-line lacked passion last year, but right now we have plenty of it,” Seaton remarked. “We have a solid group. If someone has a rough day today, the next day it’s all about bouncing back. Passion and integrity—self-integrity—are what drive this offense and defense.”

Taking a risk? Absolutely. But the foundation Seaton is building for future five-star recruits is being laid every day, and that’s a reward he clearly values.
