This is the second year in a row that wide receiver Jordan Addison of the Minnesota Vikings has been arrested in California on accusations of driving under the influence just before training camp starts.
The Vikings indicated on Monday that they are aware of the event and are obtaining additional details, but they did not provide any other remarks.
On Friday night, an officer responded to a report of a disabled car obstructing a lane on the westbound Interstate 105 exit to Sepulveda Boulevard, which leads to Los Angeles International Airport, according to the California Highway Patrol. After conducting a DUI investigation and discovering Addison dozing off in the driver’s seat of his white Rolls-Royce, the officer detained him.
Two hours later, Addison, 22, was set free. The CHP did not immediately provide any more details. Messages from The Associated Press requesting comment were not immediately answered by Addison’s representative.
Addison was selected by the Minnesota State Patrol with the 23rd overall pick in the first round of the previous year’s draft out of USC. Three days prior to reporting to his first training camp, he was caught speeding excessively and driving recklessly during a late-night highway ride through St. Paul, where he was recorded at 140 mph in a 55 mph zone. Addison informed the police that his dog was having an emergency, therefore he was driving quickly home.
Afterwards, he paid a fine, admitted guilt to a lesser offense, and had his license suspended for six months. Before the team’s first official session, Addison told reporters, “I used poor judgment, and I made a really poor decision that I’ll definitely learn from.”
In his rookie NFL season, Addison played in all 17 games and had a stellar performance on the field, racking up 911 receiving yards and 10 touchdowns. With quarterback Kirk Cousins gone, he is the obvious backup to superstar Justin Jefferson as the Minnesota offense enters a transitional year. On Sunday, veterans of the Vikings report to training camp.
The summer has been difficult for the team. Khyree Jackson, a rookie cornerback, lost his life earlier this month in a car accident in Maryland along with two of his close friends.
