The Princess of Wales utilized social media to convey her message.
Princess Kate has decided to speak out by releasing a personal statement expressing her gratitude to Andy Murray. The Princess of Wales used social media to convey an important message to the tennis star, as she serves as the patron of the All England Lawn Tennis Club. In the heartfelt message, 42-year-old Kate praised Murray’s remarkable Wimbledon career and urged him to be proud. She wrote: “An incredible #Wimbledon career comes to an end. You should be so very proud @andy_murray.”
“On behalf of all of us, thank you! C.”
The “C” signature indicates that the message was penned personally by Catherine, the Princess of Wales.
Today marked the dramatic conclusion of Murray’s Wimbledon career.
The tennis star was reported to be “completely devastated” when his mixed doubles partner Emma Raducanu withdrew from their match, bringing his Wimbledon career to a close. The British tennis icon had planned to conclude his time at the tournament by playing alongside the 21-year-old English star in a celebratory finale to his career.
However, Murray’s appearance on the court was thwarted as Raducanu withdrew today, citing “stiffness in her wrist.”
Having been compelled to withdraw from the singles on Monday due to a back injury, the 37-year-old also experienced a first-round loss in the men’s doubles alongside his brother Jamie.
This led to an emotional post-match interview in which he confessed that it was “too challenging” for him to continue competing.
He had envisioned a chance for redemption through participation in the mixed doubles with Raducanu, who had previously expressed that partnering with him was a “dream,” before the unexpected announcement.
The announcement, made earlier today, prompted a reaction from Murray’s mother, Judy, who expressed her astonishment on social media.
Kate has not been present at any Wimbledon matches in 2024, as she is presently undergoing a series of preventive chemotherapy treatments.
In a statement last month, the Princess of Wales mentioned her desire to participate in some events during the summer, but only if she feels capable of doing so.
