The highly awaited return of the critically acclaimed series Pachinko was officially announced by Apple TV+ on May 31. The show’s second season is set to premiere on August 23. Pachinko is a sprawling story that explores themes of war and peace, love and separation, victory and struggle throughout generations, and takes place across the landscapes of Korea, Japan, and the United States. It is adapted from the best-selling novel by Min Jin Lee.
Pachinko’s second season will consist of eight episodes, which will air every week from August 23 to October 11. Kim Sung Kyu is an accomplished actor who joins the impressive group of stars that includes Youn Yuh Jung, Lee Min Ho, and Kim Min Ha.
The first title sequence of the show debuted with striking visuals reminiscent of past conflicts, complete with old-fashioned photos set against a backdrop of fighting and the lives of individuals who lived through it.

The series’ first eight episodes ended with the story pivoting from a convoluted family tree to the experiences of Korean immigrants moving to Japan, with a focus on the experiences of Zainichi women who left their native country.
Season 1 mostly followed Sunja’s journey as she left her Korean family in 1931 and started a new life in Koreatown, Osaka, Japan. The story took place over the course of four generations of a Korean family, from 1915 to 1989. The show explores the terrible living conditions and severe discrimination that Korean immigrants in Japan had to deal with throughout the story.
Pachinko Season 1 received a great deal of critical acclaim; special attention was paid to the writing, photography, and the cast’s outstanding performances.
