Jai Newcombe, a young player, was chosen as the Round 16 MVP after Hawthorn defeated the Eagles 61 points on Sunday afternoon.
The 22-year-old put on a dominant midfield display from beginning to end, registering a game-high 33 disposals, eight inside 50s, and nine score involvements.
Along with James Worpel, Conor Nash, Will Day, and others, Newcombe demonstrated his importance as a component in the Hawthorn’s engine room, leading the Hawks to their fifth straight triumph.
For the season’s runner-up for the Peter Crimmins Medal, this is the first MVP nomination in 2024.
With his performance in Round 16, Newcombe’s season averages now stand at 23.6 disposals, 4.6 tackles, and 5.5 clearances per game.
On July 6 at 4:35 p.m., Hawthorn will travel down the highway to play Geelong in Round 17 at GMHBA Stadium.
