Mock drafts suggest that the UConn men’s basketball team may receive two first-round selections in the 2025 NBA Draft.
NBA championship odds from Draft Kings Sportsbook were used by CBS Sports to assist set the draft order for the anticipated class of the next year.
CBS Sports predicts that the Huskies will again have first-round draft selections in the upcoming season. A top-20 prospect who committed to the Huskies in late April, Liam McNeeley, may end his time at UConn. The Chicago Bulls are expected to select him with the eighth overall pick.
In an attempt to lead the Huskies to a three-peat NCAA championship, Alex Karaban withdrew his name from consideration for the NBA draft this year. According to CBS Sports, the forward will choose the Philadelphia 76ers with the 23rd pick.
In the meanwhile, the San Antonio Spurs select McNeeley with the tenth overall pick in ESPN’s 2025 mock draft. According to ESPN, forward Jaylin Stewart will select No. 30 for the Boston Celtics, while forward Nikola Karaban will select 34th overall and play in the second round.
Donovan Clingan, a Bristol product, went seventh overall to the Portland Trailblazers on Wednesday, while Stephon Castle went fourth overall to the Spurs. In Thursday’s second round, Tristen Newtown of the Indiana Pacers and Cam Spencer of the Memphis Grizzlies were chosen with picks 49 and 53, respectively.
Montverde Academy’s Cooper Flagg, who choose Duke over UConn in the previous fall, is predicted to declare for the NBA draft. Should the championship odds hold true, he will be selected first overall by the Brooklyn Nets on CBS and first overall by the Detroit Pistons on ESPN.
Under the direction of Bristol native Steve Pikiell, Rutgers may have two lottery selections in the upcoming year. Ace Bailey and Dylan Harper, the highly anticipated freshman recruiting class, may end up second to the Washington Wizards and fourth to the Detroit Pistons, respectively. It is anticipated that Nolan Traore of France (Portland Trailblazers) and Khaman Maluach of Duke (Utah Jazz) will finish third and fifth overall, respectively, in the upcoming season.
