With a 15-run explosion on Wednesday, Florida eliminated Kentucky from the College World Series, but as the day in Omaha gave way to night, the Gators’ offense was nowhere to be seen.
Before facing Florida in the finals, Texas A&M’s pitching was outstanding, setting them up for victory, and on Wednesday night, their pitching once again carried the day as they won 5-0.
For the Aggies, Justin Lamkin wasn’t supposed to play very long, but over the course of five scoreless innings, he basically took the choice out of Jim Schlossnagle’s hands. Lamkin gave up just three hits while striking out nine.
The Gators’ boom-or-bust offensive strategy failed when they did get opportunities. Three different innings saw Florida with two runners on base with no outs, but each time it came up empty-handed. Taking advantage of Gators starter Liam Peterson’s control problems, the Aggies were able to score two runs before generating a hit.
After Fisher Jameson took Peterson’s spot, Florida’s pitching staff found their groove, but Texas A&M delivered two huge hits to seize complete control of the contest. In the fifth inning, Gavin Grahovac doubled to make it 3-0, then in the sixth, rookie Caden Sorrell opened the score with a two-run home run.
After making it to the College World Series finals for the first time in program history and securing a match with SEC foe Tennessee, Texas A&M is going somewhere it has never been before. This weekend in Omaha, a new champion will be crowned, and in Saturday’s first game, one team will make a significant advancement toward the championship.

9 p.m. — Lamkin records his seventh strikeout of the day by striking out Shelnut. To get out of this situation, he still needs to get past Colby Shelton.
8:58 p.m. Now, instead of loading the bases with a double play or with just one out, Cade Kurland reaches on an infield single. As Lamkin tries to settle down, here comes Tyler Shelnut with a golden opportunity to put Florida on the board.
8:55 p.m. — With two on and one out, the Gators are building something, as Caglianone follows a walk with a single.
8:49 p.m. — Jameson pitches a scoreless 1-2-3 inning to start the third inning with Florida down two runs. Ever since taking over Liam Peterson’s disaster, Jameson has been everything the Gators could have asked for.
End of second inning: Texas A&M 2, Florida 0
8:42 p.m.: Lamkin has struck out five times in his past two innings pitched without allowing a run. With Shelton’s double, Florida is helpless.
https://twitter.com/AggieBaseball/status/1803589731424297217?ref_src=twsrc%5Etfw%7Ctwcamp%5Etweetembed%7Ctwterm%5E1803589731424297217%7Ctwgr%5E8b96ef8a1d89507de4a9e6efad30430514db5e17%7Ctwcon%5Es1_&ref_url=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.sportingnews.com%2Fus%2Fcollege%2Fnews%2Fflorida-texas-am-baseball-live-score-updates-highlights%2Fd2f6c76520d99a4d61e61707

8:17 p.m. — Caglianone leads off his night with a fly out after making it to base five times against Kentucky earlier in the day.
8:15 p.m. – To close the inning, Florida forces out a run at third after Ali Camarillo grounds a ball to shortstop. At least Texas A&M had a hitless inning, if you’re a Gators fan. The Aggies are ahead, 2-0. It’s Jac Caglianone coming up.
Texas A&M 2, Florida 0
8:13 p.m. SACRIFICE FLY: Jameson causes a flyout, but the ball travels far enough for the Aggies to score another run. But given that it’s an out, Florida might be okay with that outcome. It will be crucial to stop the bleeding right now.
Texas A&M 1, Florida 0
8:08 p.m. RBI WALK: Ted Burton is walked by Peterson, who then ends his night by scoring the game’s first run. After Peterson’s disorganized start, Fisher Jameson is joining the team in an attempt to avert catastrophe.
8:06 p.m.: Hayden Scott walks to load the bases with one out after Peterson records a strikeout to stop the bleeding. If nothing else, Florida has to prevent this from getting ugly.
8:00 p.m. Peterson is in serious jeopardy right now because he started the evening with two walks in a row. For the Aggies, Jace LaViolette joins Grahovac on the basepaths.
7:58 p.m. After having trouble against these Aggies earlier in the College World Series, Liam Peterson walks Gavin Grahovac to start the day.
At 7:56 p.m., we’re off and running in Omaha!
6:50 p.m. ET: The official start time for this game is 7:55 p.m. ET.
6:46 p.m.: Tennessee prevails; the series victor will play the Volunteers in an all-SEC semifinal matchup that begins on Saturday.
6:35 p.m. With Tennessee-Florida State coming to an end, this game is not anticipated to begin on schedule. Thankfully, it doesn’t appear that the game will last too long, but be aware that the first pitch isn’t really scheduled for 7 p.m. ET.
6:32 p.m. – Tennessee is finishing off a victory against Florida State, so unless the Aggies pull off a spectacular comeback, the top-seeded volunteers will play Texas A&M.
