The Western Bulldogs Football Club congratulates former Footscray captain Kelvin Templeton on his induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame on Tuesday night.
During his remarkable career, Templeton played in 143 games between 1974 and 1982 and won two Coleman Medals, a Brownlow Medal, and two Club best and fairest awards.
The accurate shooter became the first forward in the history of the game to win a Brownlow Medal, and he currently stands fourth in the Bulldogs’ all-time goalkicking rankings.
Templeton is still the center-half forward on the Footscray-Western Bulldogs Team of the Century, having led the Club in his final season.
At the conclusion of his Melbourne career, Templeton had scored 593 goals in 177 games, earning the Footscray goal-kicking award five times.
One of the greatest single games in Club history was a 15-goal performance against St Kilda in 1978.
Bulldogs CEO Ameet Bains stated, “We’re both extremely thrilled and proud to see Kelvin’s incredible career recognised with his induction into the Australian Football Hall of Fame.”
“A well-known goalie, Kelvin’s numerous honors and accomplishments bear witness to his skill as a football player. He continues to be among the Club’s best players during its 137-year existence.
“Kevin is now officially inducted into the Hall of Fame, solidifying his status as a titan of our sport after he scored 100 goals in a single season as a 21-year-old and became the first forward to win the Brownlow Medal.”
