Days after going missing while out on a stroll on the Greek island, British TV presenter Michael Mosley was discovered dead in a rocky part of Symi, local authorities and police confirmed to Reuters.
Sunday morning saw the successful recovery of the 67-year-old healthy living advocate, who had been a well-known figure on British TV for 20 years. A four-day search that involved planes, drones, and sniffer dogs was conducted.
“It’s heartbreaking to lose my amazing, hilarious, generous, and intelligent spouse, Michael. Together, we lived an extraordinarily fortunate life. In a statement released on her behalf, Mosley’s wife said, “We loved each other very much.”
According to Constantina Dimoglidou, a spokesman for the police, the body of a person thought to be Mosley was discovered near Agia Marina, which is located across from the northeast beach of Agios Nikolaos, where Mosley started his stroll, and north of the village of Pedi.
Although the body has not yet been officially identified, deputy mayor Nikitas Grillis declared, “It is definitely him.” The body was discovered on rocky ground, close to the sea, and near a beach bar.
The body was moved to the nearby Dodecanese island of Rhodes for additional examinations, according to a police officer, who also mentioned that the coroner at the scene ruled out any criminal activity but was unable to identify the cause of death.
The finding, according to Symi Mayor Lefteris Papakalodoukas, was made when he and other people, including reporters from the state TV station ERT, videotaped the region from a boat.
“Unfortunately, it was clear from our analysis of the recorded evidence that it was Mosley,” Papakalodoukas remarked.
“He was discovered between a fence and a path, 10 meters from the sea and 10-15 meters from his intended destination, the beach of Agia Marina,” the statement continued, adding that it was unknown what had transpired.
Mosley was discovered face up, with his head resting on a rock, according to ERT.
While on vacation with his spouse, Mosley was last observed alive on Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. (1030 GMT). On Friday, after his abduction, his children had landed on Symi, a town of 2,500 people, roughly 10 miles (16 km) long.
Mosley made appearances on a number of television shows, such as This Morning on ITV, The One Show on the BBC, and Trust Me, I’m a Doctor.
Using Instagram, celebrity chef Jamie Oliver posted, “Absolutely devastating news.” “His research and TV shows did so much good for public health.”
