Four criminal charges had been brought against Scheffler: assault on a police officer, criminal mischief, careless driving, and disobeying traffic-directing officials’ signals.
World No. 1 golfer Scottie Scheffler was arrested earlier this month at the PGA Championship in Louisville, Kentucky; however, all criminal charges against him have been dropped.
Prior to the tournament’s second round, on May 17, outside Valhalla Golf Club, Scheffler, 27, was taken into custody by Louisville Police. Four criminal charges were filed against him, including assault of a police officer, criminal mischief, careless driving, and disobeying traffic-directing officials’ signals.
According to a police report that Scripps News was able to get, he made an effort to avoid the traffic that had been created by a deadly accident close to the country club. Scheffler “refused to comply” with an officer assigning traffic, according to the report, and “accelerated forward, dragging Detective Gillis to the ground.”
It has been stated that the cop was taken to a neighboring hospital for an examination regarding “pain, swelling, and abrasions to his left wrist and knee.”
According to surveillance footage that Louisville police made public last week, Gillis appeared to be walking toward Scheffler’s car before preventing him from accessing the golf course. Later, Scheffler is seen being brought away while wearing handcuffs.
Due to his failure to turn on his body camera during the arrest, Gillis has received disciplinary action. The event was characterized by Scheffler as “a big misunderstanding.”
