As the head of the League of Villains and All For One’s apprentice, Tomura Shigaraki is renowned for being one of the most vicious villains in My Hero Academia. Shigaraki became enraged with Heroes after his family died tragically, and he hoped to utilize his power to destroy the world that had abandoned him.
However, the manga series’ author, Kohei Horikoshi, might have hinted that Shigaraki was concealing a heroic side of himself. There might be a young man hiding behind his destructive rampage who aspired to inspire people in the same way that Deku does. In My Hero Academia chapter 423, Shgaraki’s last moments appear to have validated this revelation.
Tenko Shimura confessed to Deku in chapter 418 of the manga My Hero Academia that he attempted to stay a villain because of the people who looked up to him. His thoughts evoked pictures of his friends, the League of Villains members. Shigaraki declared that he aspired to be a hero for those who were like them—those who were shunned and forgotten by society. Given that Tenko was shown to have dreamed as a child of protecting people, these motivations were a natural fit for his character. Shigaraki may have desired the destruction of Hero Society, but his motivations were rooted in loneliness and hate.
To the very end, Tomura Shigaraki battled to destroy. – Tenko Shimura.
Shigaraki envisioned a society in which individuals would not be shunned for their differences. For the same reason, Spinner, one of Shigaraki’s closest and most devoted pals, started to follow the League of Villains’ leader. For the majority of his existence, Spinner had to put up with discrimination because of his Heteromorph-Type Quirk. He viewed Shigaraki’s objectives as a means of bringing about a society in which individuals possessing heteromorphic abilities would not be viewed as less human. Shigaraki was viewed by many other League members as the answer to their issues.
As a child, Toya Todoroki, the oldest son of Hero Endeavor, was subjected to frequent abuse at the hands of his father. He desired to overthrow the system that made it possible for individuals like his father to rise to fame. Like Spinner, Dabi’s objective matched Shigaraki’s values to a tee, luring him to become a member of the League and follow their commander. Shigaraki turned become a symbol, someone who inspired those who had nothing left to lose. His buddies and the other disenfranchised members of Hero Society found solace in his presence.
Up until the very end, Shigaraki was a unique kind of “hero”.
Tenko’s Final Words Indicate His Desire to Be Spinner’s Her.
Tenko got a brief opportunity to talk with Midoriya after All For One was vanquished before his vestige vanished. Shigaraki took advantage of the occasion to request that Deku send a message to Spinner. The takeaway was that Tomura Shigaraki never stopped destroying. Their shared goal to demolish Hero Society was one of the reasons Spinner and Tenko grew so close. Shigaraki’s final remarks appear to be the youthful villain’s attempt to console his pal upon his passing.
Shigaraki is a prime illustration of this tendency; much like Deku came to represent the rest of the world, Shigaraki came to represent hope and change for the bad guys.
Even though these remarks don’t seem like much at first, they are the clearest indication that Shigaraki still aspired to be a hero. Even after his death, he remained steadfast and unwavering in his desire to uplift others like Spinner. When Tenko encountered All For One, he may have given up on his dream of being a hero like All Might, but his courageous spirit never went away. It is difficult to deny that Shigaraki had noble or heroic reasons for behaving in the manner that he did, even though his actions can never be forgiven.
The idea that anybody can be a hero is one of the core tenets of the My Hero Academia universe. Horikoshi has nonetheless made it apparent that there are other ways to demonstrate one’s heroism than fighting villains. Shigaraki is a prime illustration of this tendency; much like Deku came to represent the rest of the world, Shigaraki came to represent hope and change for the bad guys.
